Kagera Region

Kagera Region is an administrative region of north-western Tanzania, bordering Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, with Lake Victoria to the east and its capital at Bukoba. Named after the Kagera River, it is the homeland of the Haya people, whose small kingdoms such as Kyamutwara, Kiziba and Kianja survived under German and British rule until chieftaincies were abolished in 1963. Uganda's invasion of the region in 1978 began the Uganda–Tanzania War.
