Uganda–Tanzania War

1978–1979 · 20th century

The Uganda–Tanzania War was fought from October 1978 to June 1979 after Idi Amin's forces invaded the Kagera Salient of north-western Tanzania. The Tanzanian army, joined by Ugandan exiles, drove out the invaders and advanced into Uganda, defeating Amin's army and a Libyan expeditionary force sent to support him. Kampala fell on 11 April 1979, Amin fled into exile, and a new government under Yusuf Lule took power.
