Lambaréné
Lambaréné is a town in west-central Gabon on the Ogooué River, capital of Moyen-Ogooué province. In 1913 the Alsatian doctor and theologian Albert Schweitzer founded a hospital at the Protestant mission there, which he ran for most of the rest of his life and for which he became widely known, receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for 1952. The Albert Schweitzer Hospital still operates.
