Lambaesis

Lambaesis was a Roman military base and city in Numidia, in north-eastern Algeria, at the foot of the Aurès Mountains. From the early 2nd century it was the headquarters of the Third Augustan Legion, which guarded the African frontier, and from around 198 the seat of the governor of the province of Numidia. Its extensive ruins include the legion's headquarters.
