Gordian II

c. 192–238 · 3rd century

Gordian II was Roman emperor for about three weeks in 238, jointly with his father Gordian I. When a revolt at Thysdrus in Africa proclaimed the elderly proconsul emperor against Maximinus Thrax, the Senate recognised both. Gordian II was killed at Carthage fighting the Numidian legion under Capelianus, and his father hanged himself; his nephew later reigned as Gordian III.
