Land-to-the-Tiller Act
The Land-to-the-Tiller programme of 1953 was the final stage of land reform in Taiwan under the Republic of China. Landlords were required to sell land above a fixed limit to the state, receiving compensation in commodity bonds and shares in state enterprises, and the land was resold to the tenants who farmed it. With earlier rent reduction, it created a society of owner-farmers and supported rapid growth.
