Le Morne des Sauteurs

1651 · 17th century · Also known as Caribs' Leap, Leapers' Hill

Le Morne des Sauteurs ('Leapers' Hill'), also called Caribs' Leap, is a cliff at Sauteurs on the northern coast of Grenada. According to French accounts, in 1651 the last Kalinago (Carib) defenders resisting the French colonists leapt from it to their deaths rather than surrender. The site is a national memorial, and the town of Sauteurs takes its name from the event.
