Liberal Party of Honduras

1891 · 19th century

The Liberal Party of Honduras is one of the country's two traditional parties, founded in 1891 under Policarpo Bonilla. It alternated in power with the National Party through much of the twentieth century and, after the return to civilian rule in 1982, produced presidents including Roberto Suazo Córdova, Carlos Roberto Reina, Carlos Flores and Manuel Zelaya. The removal of Zelaya in 2009 split the party.
