Manuel Zelaya

b. 1952 · 20th century

Manuel Zelaya is a Honduran politician of the Liberal Party who was President of Honduras from 2006 until 28 June 2009, when the army removed him and flew him to Costa Rica. The coup followed his push for a poll on a constituent assembly and his closer ties with Hugo Chávez's Venezuela. It was condemned internationally, and Honduras was suspended from the Organization of American States until 2011.
