Liberal Revolution of 1820
The Liberal Revolution of 1820 was a constitutionalist uprising in Portugal, beginning in Porto. It demanded a constitution and the return of King John VI from Brazil, where the court had lived since 1808. The king's return and Portuguese attempts to reduce Brazil's status led to Brazilian independence in 1822 and the founding of the Brazilian Empire.
