Lüderitz
Lüderitz is a port town on the Atlantic coast of southern Namibia. Its bay, Angra Pequena, was visited by Bartolomeu Dias in 1487 or 1488, and Adolf Lüderitz's purchase there in 1883 began German South West Africa. Diamonds were found nearby in 1908, starting a rush in the Namib, and during the war of 1904 to 1908 the concentration camp on Shark Island held Nama and Herero prisoners.
