Macedonians (ethnic group)
The Macedonians, in the modern sense, are a South Slavic people of the region of Macedonia in the southern Balkans. In the late Ottoman Empire, Macedonia was a contested province where Bulgarian, Greek and Serbian nationalisms competed. Nationalist revolts and the Balkan Wars of 1912 to 1913 ended Ottoman rule there.
