Machchhu River
The Machchhu is a river of the Saurashtra peninsula in Gujarat, western India, flowing north past Wankaner and Morbi towards the Little Rann of Kutch. The former princely states of Wankaner and Morvi grew up on its banks. In August 1979 the failure of the Machchhu-II dam above Morbi during heavy rains sent a flood through the town that killed thousands of people, one of India's worst dam disasters.
