Magadhi Prakrit
Magadhi Prakrit was the Middle Indo-Aryan vernacular of ancient Magadha in eastern India. It is associated with the speech of the Buddha and Mahavira, appears in the eastern versions of the inscriptions of Ashoka, and is used for some lower-class characters in classical Sanskrit drama. The eastern Indo-Aryan languages, including Bengali, Odia, Assamese and the Bihari languages, descend from its later forms.
