Mangaia
Mangaia is the southernmost of the Cook Islands, an ancient volcanic island ringed by a raised coral cliff called the makatea. It had a warlike traditional society ruled by a high priest and victorious war leaders. Christian missionaries arrived in the 1820s, and it joined the Cook Islands federal government in the 1890s.
