Frederick Moss

1827–1904 · 19th century

Frederick Moss was a New Zealand politician who served as British Resident in the Cook Islands from 1891 to 1898. He persuaded the ariki of Rarotonga and the other islands to form a federal government with a parliament, the Cook Islands Federation, and promoted schools and laws. Criticised for his methods, he was recalled, and New Zealand annexed the islands in 1901.
