Manikya dynasty

c. 1400–1949 · 15th century

The Manikya dynasty ruled the kingdom of Tripura in north-eastern India from about the early 15th century until 1949, one of the longest-lasting royal lines of South Asia. Its kings claimed descent from the lunar dynasty of Hindu tradition, and their history is told in the chronicle known as the Rajmala. They lost the plains to the Mughals but kept the hills, ruled as a princely state under the British and acceded to India in 1949.
