Marienberg Fortress
The Marienberg Fortress stands on a hill above the Main opposite the old town of Würzburg in Bavaria. The Marienkirche on the summit dates from the early eighth century, and from the thirteenth century to 1719 the fortress was the residence of the prince-bishops of Würzburg. It was stormed by the Swedes in 1631 and later rebuilt as a Baroque fortress; it now houses museums.
