Maselekwane Modjadji I
Maselekwane Modjadji I was the first Rain Queen of the Lobedu people in what is now Limpopo, South Africa, coming to power around 1800. According to tradition she was a daughter of the king, and her accession began a line of queens believed to control the rain, to whom distant rulers sent gifts. She lived in seclusion and is said to have inspired H. Rider Haggard's novel She.
