13th century · 13th century · Also known as Masnavi-ye Ma'navi, Mathnawi

The Masnavi, or Masnavi-ye Ma'navi, is a long Persian poem by Jalal al-Din Rumi, composed in Konya in the last years of his life. In six books of some 25,000 rhyming couplets, it teaches Sufi doctrine through stories, fables and commentary on the Qur'an. It is one of the most influential works of Persian literature and of Islamic mysticism.
