Merbok River

The Merbok River is a river in Kedah, north-western Malaysia, flowing west into the Strait of Malacca south of Gunung Jerai. From about the 4th century its estuary was a landfall for ships crossing the Bay of Bengal, and the ports and shrines of Old Kedah grew up along its banks. Its mangrove-lined estuary is now a forest reserve.
