Mirza Hosein Khan Sepahsalar

1828–1881 · 19th century

Mirza Hosein Khan Sepahsalar, also titled Moshir od-Dowleh, was a reforming minister of Qajar Iran. After years as envoy in Istanbul, where he observed the Ottoman Tanzimat reforms, he became prime minister in 1871 and tried to create a cabinet government, modernise the army and courts and attract foreign investment. Opposition to the Reuter concession brought his fall in 1873, though he later held other offices.
