Moderating Power
The moderating power, Poder Moderador, was a constitutional power given to the emperor of Brazil by the constitution of 1824. It allowed him to appoint and dismiss ministries, dissolve the chamber and act as arbiter among the branches of government. Pedro II used it to rotate power between the Liberal and Conservative parties.
