Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is a district of Monaco on the Spélugues plateau east of the harbour. Prince Charles III founded its casino in 1863 to restore the principality's finances after the loss of Menton and Roquebrune, and the quarter, named after him in 1866, grew into a resort of the European elite. It is known for the Casino, the Hôtel de Paris and the Monaco Grand Prix.
