Munmu of Silla

626–681 · 7th century

Munmu was king of Silla from 661 to 681, son of King Muyeol. With Tang China he completed the conquest of Baekje and destroyed Goguryeo in 668, and then fought the Silla–Tang War, which ended in 676 with Silla controlling the peninsula south of the Taedong River. He asked to be buried at sea to guard the kingdom as a dragon, and his tomb is placed at Daewangam rock.
