The Taedong is a river of North Korea that flows about 450 kilometres south-west from the northern mountains through Pyongyang to the Yellow Sea at Nampo. Its basin was the heartland of late Gojoseon, of the Chinese commandery of Lelang and later of Goguryeo, whose capital Pyongyang stood on its banks from 427.
