Munjong of Goryeo

1019–1083 · 11th century

Munjong of Goryeo was king of Goryeo from 1046 to 1083, a thirty-seven-year reign often seen as the height of the dynasty. He refined its institutions, revised the stipend land system in 1076 and fostered Buddhism and Confucian learning. Relations with Song China were renewed, and his son Uicheon became one of the leading monks of the age.
