Nakhon Ratchasima
Nakhon Ratchasima, commonly called Korat, is a city in north-eastern Thailand and the capital of the country's largest province, on the south-western edge of the Khorat Plateau. Founded as a fortified Siamese frontier town in the 17th century, it was the gateway to the Lao and Khmer lands of the Isan region. A monument in the city honours Thao Suranari, heroine of the resistance to Anouvong of Vientiane in 1826.
