Nakhon Si Thammarat
Nakhon Si Thammarat is a city on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula in southern Thailand, called Ligor by Europeans. It was the centre of the trading kingdom of Tambralinga and later of a kingdom that spread Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhism to Sukhothai. Its great stupa, Wat Phra Mahathat, remains one of the most revered in Thailand.
