National Women's Monument

1913 · 20th century · Also known as Vrouemonument

The National Women's Monument is a memorial in Bloemfontein, South Africa, unveiled on 16 December 1913. It commemorates the Boer women and children, some 26,000 by common estimate, who died in British concentration camps during the Second Boer War. Its obelisk and bronze sculpture by Anton van Wouw became an important symbol of Afrikaner remembrance.
