Neuse River
The Neuse River flows south-east across the coastal plain of North Carolina into Pamlico Sound. Its valley was home to Tuscarora towns and to the Neusiok people, who gave the river its name. In 1710 Swiss and German settlers founded New Bern at its junction with the Trent, and their encroachment on Tuscarora land helped provoke the Tuscarora War of 1711.
