Tuscarora War

1711–1715 · 18th century

The Tuscarora War was fought in North Carolina from 1711 to 1715 between the Tuscarora and their allies and British colonists. Angered by land seizures, trading abuses and the enslavement of their people, the southern Tuscarora attacked settlements along the Neuse and Pamlico rivers in September 1711. South Carolina expeditions with Yamasee and other Native allies destroyed their fort of Neoheroka in 1713, and many Tuscarora moved north to join the Iroquois Confederacy.
