Albany Congress

1754 · 18th century

The Albany Congress was a meeting of delegates from seven British American colonies held at Albany, New York, in June and July 1754, as war with France loomed. It sought to renew the alliance with the Iroquois Confederacy and adopted Benjamin Franklin's Albany Plan for a union of the colonies under a president-general. The colonial assemblies and the Crown rejected the plan.
