Siege of Fort Neoheroka

1713 · 18th century · Part of the Tuscarora War

The Siege of Fort Neoheroka was the decisive action of the Tuscarora War in North Carolina. In March 1713 a colonial force under Colonel James Moore of South Carolina, made up mostly of Yamasee, Cherokee and other Native allies, besieged the fortified Tuscarora town of Neoheroka and destroyed it with fire. Hundreds of Tuscarora were killed and hundreds more captured and sold as slaves, and many survivors moved north to join the Iroquois.
