Nikolai Bobrikov

1839–1904 · 19th century

Nikolai Bobrikov was a Russian general who served as Governor-General of Finland from 1898. He drove the Russification of the grand duchy, imposing the February Manifesto of 1899, which allowed imperial laws to override Finnish ones, the language manifesto of 1900 and a conscription law of 1901. He was shot in Helsinki in June 1904 by the Finnish official Eugen Schauman.
