Niš
Niš is a city in southern Serbia on the Nišava river, one of the oldest cities of the Balkans. As Roman Naissus it was the birthplace of Constantine the Great. Taken by the Ottomans in the late 14th century, it saw a Christian victory in 1443 during John Hunyadi's Long Campaign, after which Skanderbeg deserted the Ottoman army. Serbia gained the city in 1878.
