Nordgau

Also known as Bavarian Nordgau

The Nordgau, or Bavarian Nordgau, was a medieval frontier region north of the Danube in the Duchy of Bavaria, roughly corresponding to the later Upper Palatinate and parts of Franconia. It was ruled by margraves in the 10th and 11th centuries. By the Treaty of Pavia in 1329 its northern part went to the Palatine line of the Wittelsbachs and became the Upper Palatinate.
