Novosibirsk
Novosibirsk is the largest city in Siberia and the third-largest in Russia, on the Ob River. It was founded in 1893 where the Trans-Siberian Railway bridged the Ob, and grew rapidly as a railway, industrial and administrative centre. Its scientific town of Akademgorodok made it one of the main centres of Soviet research.
