Obersalzberg
The Obersalzberg is a mountainside above Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps. From the 1920s Adolf Hitler stayed there, and after 1933 the area was turned into a fenced compound with his Berghof, houses for Nazi leaders, barracks and the Kehlsteinhaus on the summit above. Most of the buildings were bombed in 1945 and later cleared, and a documentation centre on the Nazi period opened there in 1999.
