Obrenović dynasty

1815–1903 · 19th century · Also known as House of Obrenović

The Obrenović dynasty ruled Serbia from 1815 to 1842 and again from 1858 to 1903. Founded by Miloš Obrenović, leader of the Second Serbian Uprising, it competed for the throne with the Karađorđević family. Under it Serbia won autonomy and then independence, and became a kingdom in 1882. The line ended when King Alexander and Queen Draga were murdered in the May Coup of 1903.
