1823–1868 · 19th century · Also known as Mihailo Obrenović III

Michael Obrenović (Mihailo Obrenović III) was prince of Serbia from 1839 to 1842 and again from 1860 until his assassination in 1868. In his second reign he modernised the army and administration and worked for a Balkan alliance against the Ottomans. His diplomacy secured the withdrawal of the last Ottoman garrisons from Serbian fortresses, including Belgrade, in 1867.
