Second Serbian Uprising

1815–1817 · 19th century

The Second Serbian Uprising was a revolt of Serbs against Ottoman rule, launched at Takovo in April 1815 under Miloš Obrenović. Combining fighting with negotiation, Miloš won a measure of self-government from the Ottomans, and the autonomous Principality of Serbia that emerged was formally recognised by the sultan in 1830.
