Ordoño I of Asturias

c. 821–866 · 9th century

Ordoño I was king of Asturias from 850 to 866, the son and successor of Ramiro I. He resettled and fortified frontier towns such as León, Astorga and Tui, pushing Christian settlement south of the Cantabrian mountains. In 859 he defeated Musa ibn Musa of the Banu Qasi at Albelda, and his reign also saw Viking raids on the Galician coast driven off.
