Banu Qasi

8th–10th century · 8th century

The Banu Qasi were a Muslim dynasty of Hispano-Roman or Visigothic origin who ruled much of the upper Ebro valley from the eighth to the early tenth century, descended according to tradition from a count Cassius who converted to Islam after the Arab conquest. Based at Tudela, Zaragoza and other towns of the Upper March, they alternated between loyalty and revolt towards Córdoba and allied with the Arista rulers of Pamplona.
