Oscarsborg Fortress
Oscarsborg Fortress is a coastal fortress on islands in the Drøbak Sound of the Oslofjord, south of Oslo, built mainly in the mid-nineteenth century. On 9 April 1940 its old guns and torpedo battery sank the German heavy cruiser Blücher, which was carrying troops to occupy Oslo. The delay allowed King Haakon VII, the government and the gold reserves to escape the capital.
