Pan-Africanism

Also known as Pan-African, pan-African

Pan-Africanism is a movement that promotes the unity and solidarity of African peoples in Africa and the diaspora. Ethiopia's victory over Italy at Adwa in 1896 made it a powerful symbol for pan-African activists. The Ethiopian Empire became a symbolic centre of the movement and hosted the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963.
