Panglong Conference
The Panglong Conference was a meeting held at Panglong in the Shan States in February 1947, at which Aung San, representing the interim Burmese government, reached agreement with Shan, Kachin and Chin leaders. The Panglong Agreement of 12 February 1947 accepted their joining a federal Union of Burma with internal autonomy. Its promises remain central to ethnic politics in Myanmar, where 12 February is celebrated as Union Day.
