Perusine War

41–40 BCE · 1st century BCE

The Perusine War was a Roman civil conflict of 41–40 BCE between Octavian and the consul Lucius Antonius, backed by Fulvia, wife of Mark Antony. It arose from the confiscation of Italian land for veterans after Philippi. Octavian besieged Lucius in Perusia, the modern Perugia, through the winter until hunger forced a surrender; the city was burned and many of its leading citizens executed.
