Petrocaribe

2005 · 21st century

Petrocaribe is an oil alliance between Venezuela and Caribbean and Central American states, launched in June 2005 under Hugo Chávez. Members could buy Venezuelan oil on preferential terms, paying part of the cost over long periods at low interest or in goods. At its height it supplied much of its members' oil imports, but shipments fell sharply after 2015 as Venezuela's oil production collapsed.
