Pevensey Castle

Pevensey Castle is a medieval castle in East Sussex, England, built inside the walls of the Roman fort of Anderitum. The fort was erected in the late 3rd century as one of the Saxon Shore defences, and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records its storming by Ælle and the South Saxons in 491. William the Conqueror landed nearby in 1066, and a Norman castle was later built in one corner of the Roman walls.
